Riley Ottesen,
Jayson Rose and
Dallas Carroll were all selected on the second day of the 2017 MLB Draft on Tuesday afternoon. Ottesen was a fifth-round selection to the Los Angeles Dodgers (160th overall pick) while Rose and Carroll both went to the Milwaukee Brewers, Rose in the eighth round (234th pick) and Carroll in the ninth round (264th pick).

It is the first time that Utah has had three players drafted in the first nine rounds, and Utah has had 10 total players drafted in the first 10 rounds in Utah head coach
Bill Kinneberg's tenure at Utah. Ottesen is the Utah's highest draft pick since 2014, when Tyler Wagner was a fourth-round selection.

This past season, Ottesen started 15 games as Utah's Saturday starter. He was second on the team and ranks ninth in the Pac-12 with 72 strikeouts. Ottesen is eighth in the Pac-12 in innings pitched (95). He went 5-4 with a 4.93 ERA, and also had one save, which came in his only relief appearance in extra innings against BYU. Ottesen had a career-high 11 strikeouts in Utah's win over Arizona State.

Ottesen has made 39 career appearances at Utah with 18 starts over two seasons. He has 119 career strikeouts with a 5.37 ERA and a 7-6 record with three saves. Among his career highlights was a win over Ole Miss in the 2016 NCAA regional. Ottesen originally signed with Utah out of high school in 2012 before serving an LDS church mission in Japan.

Rose was a three-time All-Pac-12 player, earning first team honors in 2016 and 2017. He holds both the Utah single-season (106, 2016) and career (256) records for strikeouts. Rose has a 19-13 career record with a 3.23 career ERA.

This past season, Rose led Utah and ranks fifth in the Pac-12 with eight wins (8-3 overall) and ranks seventh in the Pac-12 with 82 strikeouts. His 3.35 ERA is 11th in the Pac-12. His season highlights include throwing 7 1/3 shutout innings in a win over then-12th-ranked Stanford, striking out eight. Stanford did not have a runner get past second during the game. He also earned a win over then-seventh-ranked Arizona.

Other career highlights for Rose include a complete-game one-hit shutout with eight strikeouts against UC Riverside in 2016. He was named Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week and
Collegiate Baseball National Player of the Week after striking out 11 over six innings in a win over No. 21 California in 2015.

Carroll started 188 career games at third base for the Utes. He is a two-time first-team All-Pac-12 selection (2016-17) and was named to the 2017 Pac-12 All-Defensive team. Carroll had a career .311 batting average while at Utah with a .418 on-base percentage. He was also a three-time honorable mention Pac-12 All-Academic team pick.

Carroll was one of the top hitters in the Pac-12 this season, leading Utah and ranking in the top five in the league in several major hitting categories. He led Utah and ranks fourth in the Pac-12 in batting average. Carroll is ranked second in the Pac-12 in slugging percentage (.591) and on-base percentage (.465) while ranking third in the Pac-12 in hits per game (1.43) and is fourth in the league in RBI (52).

As a freshman, Carroll was named Utah's first-ever Pac-12 Player of the Week for his performance in games against Utah Valley and Stanford. His identical twin brother Dalton pitched for the Utes from 2013-16 (with Dallas gaining an extra year after breaking his collarbone in 2014) and was a 21st-round draft pick to the Atlanta Braves in 2016.
