STANFORD, Calif. – The University of Utah women's basketball team fell to the No. 17 Stanford Cardinal on the road tonight, 70-49. Utah is 15-9 overall and 6-7 in Pac-12 play after suffering its first road loss of the conference season.

"We tried to do too much one-on-one, which is not how we normally play," head coach
Lynne Roberts said. "But then in the second half we only had four turnovers and six assists. We did a good job on the boards, but we just didn't shoot well. We shot 18-percent in the first half. We had a better second half, but Stanford is good and you have to give credit to them."

Utah had two players score in double figures with
Daneesha Provo leading the way. The junior scored 14 points while
Emily Potter added 12 points, nine rebounds and two blocks.

Coming off the bench,
Kiana Moore had a strong second half with four points with
Tilar Clark adding four points and six rebounds.
Tanaeya BoClair had five points and four rebounds, also notching a steal.

The Utes were able to keep it close early in the first quarter, tying the score 4-4 with 7:18 on the clock on a layup from
Megan Huff, but Stanford answered with a 13-2 run, eventually taking a 20-9 lead into the second quarter. Utah was able to force four turnovers in the first quarter, but struggled to get going offensively.

The offensive struggles continued for the Utes into the second quarter after Stanford held Utah to just one made field goal and six total points. It was a dominant quarter for the Cardinal as Utah was only able to shoot 11-percent from the field, also committing seven turnovers in the period.

Coming out of halftime, Utah turned the corner and outscored Stanford 19-18 in the third quarter, holding the Cardinal to just 1-for-6 from the three. Potter scored eight of her 12 points in the quarter, including sparking a 7-0 run to start the quarter, cutting the Stanford lead to 39-22.

Utah came into the fourth quarter down 57-34, but continued to fight, improving to 46-percent shooting in the final period and outscoring the Cardinal again, 15-13. Provo scored five points in the final quarter with Moore adding her four after taking the reins at the point guard position, getting in key minutes off the bench.

Utah will return to action on Sunday, Feb. 11 when they head to Cal. The game is set for a 3 p.m. MT tip.Â
