SALT LAKE CITY—
Carly Dockendorf has been named director of recruiting and player development for the Utah gymnastics team. In becoming the first recruiting director in program history, Dockendorf will be intricately involved in all aspects of recruiting, including strategy, database management, on-campus official and unofficial visits, and recruiting travel.
Â
Her duties as the director of player development will include serving as a liaison between the Utah gymnasts and campus departments, tracking academic progress reports, study table hours and mentor meetings. She will also assist incoming freshmen in their transition to the collegiate environment.
Â
Dockendorf is in her second year on the Utah staff, having spent last year as the team's volunteer assistant coach and choreographer. With her assistance, Utah boasted one of the best teams in the country on the floor exercise.
MyKayla Skinner and
Sydney Soloski both won All-America honors on floor and a Ute won the floor exercise title at both the Pac-12 Championship (Skinner) and NCAA Regional (Skinner and
MaKenna Merrell-Giles).
Â
"Carly did an outstanding job as our volunteer assistant last year," said Utah co-head coach
Tom Farden. "With her passion for Utah gymnastics and her high level of expertise in the sport, we realized she would be a great addition to our recruiting efforts. We are thrilled to name Carly as our first director of recruiting and player development."
Â

Dockendorf brings a decade of experience in college coaching to her new position. Before joining the Ute staff last year, she spent six years at Seattle Pacific as an assistant gymnastics coach (2009, 2013-17) and three years as SPU's assistant track and field coach (2010-12). She also coached at Falcon Gymnastics Center from 2012-17.
Â
She is a former Canadian National team member and two-sport NCAA All-American at Washington. In 2003, she won the Pac-12 uneven bar title and earned All-America honors on floor. She was a three-time NCAA regional champion. She also competed for the Huskies' track and field team and earned All-America honors on pole vault in 2005 when she placed sixth at the NCAA Championships.
Â
She would later set the Canadian indoor pole vault record. Dockendorf is USA Weightlifting Sports Performance Certified.
