Simonich Places Eighth at Prestiguos Pre-NCAA Race

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah - Utah senior Jeff Simonich took eighth place out of 259 runners at the Bob Timmons Invitational on Saturday, while the rest of Utah's men's team and women's team each took first at the Bronco Invitational hosted by Cal Poly Pamona.
Simonich was Utah's only participant at the Bob Timmons Invitational, competing in the 8,000 meter event with a time of 24:56.85. This meet, hosted by Kansas, featured 31 out of 84 teams ranked either in the Division I or Division II Coaches Top 25 polls. The invitational doubled as a NCAA Pre-National Meet, giving runners the opportunity to run the course before the NCAA National Championships in November.
Utah, the only Division I team at the Invitational in Pamona, had all 10 of its men finish in the top 15. Junior Travis Hildebrand placed first overall in the 8,000 meter event with a time of 25:14.7. The women's team had all seven of its runners finish in the top 20. Junior Johanna Nielsen finished third overall as Utah's highest individual runner in the 5,000 meter event with a time of 19:40.5.
The Ute's will travel to Provo, Utah, to compete in the BYU-Reebok Grand Prix on October 17th.
