BOZEMAN, Mont. - After one half of the NCAA championships have been completed, Utah improves it's ranking from fifth to second. Thursday's races included the men's 10K classical cross country and the women's 5K classical races.
The men's race was won by Thorodd Bakken of Vermont. His time of 27:52.6 was just 2.2 seconds faster than second place finisher Frode Kollerud from Utah. Frode's brother Rune took third for the Utes clocking in at 28:13.2. The third Ute to ski was Pat Casey who placed tenth.
In the women's, Line Selnes from Colorado won the race, finishing more than twenty seconds ahead of second place finisher Kristin Tjelle of Utah. Hailey Wappett placed eleventh and Kristina Joder took thirteenth.
The second half of the ski championships will resume tomorrow with the end of alpine competition. Skiing for the Utes will be Sabrina Lawrence, Marianne Winge and Alicia Howard and Mike Elvidge, Ryan Forsyth and Alain Britt-Cote for the men.
