Bowles named District Academic All-American

SALT LAKE CITY -
University of Utah sophomore gymnast Shannon Bowles has been named a GTE/CoSIDA District 8 Academic All-American. Bowles, who has a 3.81 cumulative GPA in exercise and sport science (pre-med emphasis), is one of 10 at-large selections who are now eligible for the Academic All-America Team. She was one of two gymnasts chosen for the District 8 team, which encompasses nine western states and British Columbia. Bowles is currently ranked second in the nation on the balance beam, an event on which she earned first-team All-America honors last year. She was also a first-team All-American in the all-around and on the uneven bars. Bowles has eight victories so far this year for the No. 3 ranked Utes.
