The University of Utah golf team will participate in the 37th Annual Cougar Classic hosted by BYU this Friday and Saturday. The Utes competing will be Jon Morgan, Brock Padilla, Shawn Edwards, Gregg Oliphant, Clint Christiansen and Lance Richard.
The field features 16 teams including five that are ranked in the Mastercard College Golf Foundation Top 50. Teams will play 36 holes on Friday and 18 holes on Saturday with play beginning at 8:00 a.m. each day. The tournament will be played at the Riverside Country Club, a course the Utes know well.
"We are very familiar with this course," said Head Coach Wayne Fisher. "We always get excited to play in this tournament. It's a good field which includes all the local teams so it is a very competitive tournament".
Utah placed last in this tournament last year, and Fisher believes it will be a motivational factor.
"Our finish last year was very uncharacteristic of our team, but being so familiar with the course we probably got a little careless," Fisher said. "There will definitely be a redemption factor involved. I feel like the team is ready. We have had good qualifying rounds and even had time for some individual practice."
Utah will return to action when they travel to Blackfoot, Idaho to participate in the Bengal Invitational hosted by Idaho State April 26-27.
