Ute Travel - The University of Utah men's and women's swimming and diving teams host UNLV and Oregon State, Sat., Nov. 14 at 1:00 p.m. The Ute men will compete against UNLV while the women take-on Oregon State. In their last match-up, UNLV defeated the men's team 160-83. UNLV finished third (570 points) at the 1998 WAC Championships, Utah was fourth. Oregon State is 1-1 overall, with an 0-1 Pac-10 mark. Last season, OSU defeated Utah 54-41.
Utes to Watch - Sophomore Troy Johnson dominated the sprint freestyle lanes versus Brigham Young in Utah's season opener on Oct. 30. He won the 50 and 100 freestyle events and was a member of the second-place 400 free relay team. At the WAC Championships, Johnson placed ninth in the 50 free, 13th in the 100 fly and 16th in the 100 free. He was also a member of the fourth-place 200 medley and fifth-place 200 free relay teams. Senior Molly Lauber placed second in the 50 free, 200 breast and the 400 medley relay against BYU. She holds the Utah records in the 100 and 200 breaststroke. Newcomers to the U. diving squad, Erica Fleming and Crystal Gregory, placed second and third in both events at BYU. Fleming caught the second place spot in the 1-meter dive and third in the 3-meter. Gregory was third in the 1-meter and second in the 3-meter. Junior Johan Nystrom was second in the 50 and 100 freestyle, Matt Chamberlain was second in the 200 fly and third in the 200 IM and freshman Melissa Chamberlin was second in the 1000 free at the Y.
Last Week - In the season opener, the Utes lost to Brigham Young. The women fell 64-179 and the men lost 79-158. Both teams are 0-1 on the season.
