SALT LAKE CITY -
The 10-time national champion Utah gymnastics team has released its tentative schedule for the year 2000. Highlighting Utah's home slate is 1997 NCAA champion UCLA on February 14. It is Utah's only Monday meet of the year. Utah has one Sunday competition (at Oregon State on March 12). All of its other meets are scheduled for Friday evening.
The Utes, who placed seventh at the 1999 NCAA Championships, open their 2000 campaign on January 14 against Utah State in the University Park Marriott Hotel Classic. Their other home meets include Minnesota (January 21), Brigham Young (February 4), UCLA (February 14), Arizona (February 25) and Washington (March 3).
The two marquee road trips for the Utes this year are to Louisiana State on January 28 and to Arizona State on February 18. Utah has not competed in Baton Rouge since the 1980 at the (AIAW) national championships. Arizona State, which placed fourth at the 1999 NCAA Championships, is the highest finisher from last year's championships on Utah's upcoming schedule. Total, there are three teams from the 1999 NCAA Championships on Utah's 2000 schedule: Arizona State (4th), UCLA (5th) and LSU (9th).
The NCAA regional championships are slated for April 1 at sites to be determined. The 2000 NCAA Championships will be hosted by Boise State on April 13-15. Season tickets to Utah's home meets will go on sale November 1.
