THIS WEEK: The Utes are at the NCAA Mountain Regional Championships in Ogden, Utah on Nov. 11. The top two teams from the men's and women's side will automatically qualify all of their runners for the NCAA Championships. Runners placing in the top three, outside of the two qualifying teams, will also qualify for the NCAA Championships.
COACH JONES ON THE MEN'S TEAM- "I was a little disappointed that we didn't finish ahead of Air Force for third place, but outside of that I thought we ran well at the MWC Championships. Teren ran a great race to finish third and earn conference honors. I'm optimistic he will finish in the top three this weekend to qualify for the NCAA Championships."
HONORS--Teren Jameson was named to the all-MWC Cross Country First Team for his third place finish at the MWC Championships. Earlier in the year he was honored by being named MWC Cross Country Athlete of the Week twice for his first place finishes at the Idaho State and Colorado State Invitationals.
At the MWC Championships, B.J. Christenson was named the conference's "Sportsman of the Year." As Christenson was approaching the finish line, he came across a BYU runner that was suffering from oxygen deprivation. Christenson grabbed the other runners arm and helped him across the finish line. Earlier in the year Christenson was honored for his second place finish at the Long Beach State Invitational, by being named MWC Cross Country Athlete of the Week.
COACH JONES ON THE WOMEN'S TEAM- "The women finished fourth overall, which was two spots higher than they were predicted to finish in the preseason. This finish is a great accomplishment for the young team we have. Jennifer Brusch started the year out as our number seven runner, and finished as our number one runner with nearly a two minute time improvement. We don't have a runner fast enough to qualify for the NCAA Championships this year, but next year I'll have high hopes for a possible female qualifier."
COMING UP: The NCAA Championships will be held in Ames, Iowa on Nov. 20. This championship meet is for qualifiers only.
