Four Utes will take a crack at an NCAA individual event championship tonight, April 15, the final night of the 2000 NCAA Championships. Denise Jones, Deidra Graham, Jenny Schmidt and Angelika Schatton will represent Utah in the event finals. Jones is Utah's only two event performer. She'll compete on beam and floor. Graham and Schatton also qualified for the balance beam finals and Schmidt will perform on bars.
Athletes qualified for the NCAA individual event finals by placing in the top four (including ties) of their session on Thursday. The Ute quartet placed as follows during Thursday's afternoon session: Jones tied for first on floor (9.90) and third on beam (9.825), Graham tied for first on beam (9.850), Schmidt tied for third on bars (9.825) and Schatton tied for third on beam (9.825).
Graham will be Utah's first performer. She'll go up No. 3 on beam. Schatton drew the No. 4 slot, while Jones is No. 8. There are 12 total vault competitors. Schmidt got the best draw for Utah. She'll be the 11th and final competitor on bars. Jones is No. 2 on floor.
