Two Utes Invited To NCAA Outdoor Championships

SALT LAKE CITY - Senior Chris Merkley and junior Chantel Goldsberry have been selected to participate in the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Durham, N.C. Goldsberry will compete in the hammer throw at 11:00 a.m. (EST) on Wednesday, May 31 and Merkley will compete in the 5,000 meters on Saturday, June 3 at 8:50 p.m. (EST).
Both were named all-Mountain West Conference this year at the outdoor track and field championships. Goldsberry placed third in the hammer with a throw of 190' 5.0" at the conference meet and set a new school record. Merkely finished second in the 1,500 meters with a time of 3 minutes, 48.51 seconds to earn all-conference and provisionally qualify in that event, but it was his time of 13:55.37 in the 5,000 at the Stanford Invitational on Mar. 25 that earned him an invitation to nationals.
