The University of Utah men's golf team will travel to Fresno, Calif., to compete in the Fresno Lexus Golf Classic. The tournament will take place at the Sunnyside Country Club on Oct. 5-6 and is hosted by Fresno State University. Golfers Jason Shepherd, Bruce Summerhays, Nick Summers, Luke Swilor, Paul Winterowd and Ashdon Woods will be competing for Utah. The Utes will compete in a field of 16 teams, including two Mountain West Conference opponents, Colorado State and San Diego State.
Utah will look to improve on its last outing after finishing 19th at the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate in Albuquerque, N.M. Senior Paul Winterowd led the Utes with an overall score of 229 in three rounds to finish 13-over par, finishing 67th overall. Winterowd also shot the low round for Utah with a score of 74 in his first round. Nick Summers, in his Ute debut, finished 81st overall with a three round score of 232 (16-over par).
"We're excited to get back into the tournament atmosphere after our disappointing performance at the New Mexico Tournament," says head coach Wayne Fisher, "Fresno always puts on a good tournament with a great atmosphere and great opponents, I look forward to seeing how our guys respond."
