The Utah men's and women's swimming and diving teams hosted Brigham Young on Friday at Ute Natatorium. The women's team lost by a score of 124-117, while the men fell 152-91. The Ute women fall to 0-2 overall and 0-1 MWC. The men fall to 0-1 overall and 0-1 MWC.
Neringa Statkeviciute led the women by finishing first in two individual events. She won the 50 free with a time of 23.85 which places her fourth on the Utah top-ten performance list. Statkeviciute also won the 100 free (51.26) and is now second on the Utah top-ten performance list.
The men were led by Evan Castro who finished first in the 200 breast (2:07.65) and second in the 200 free (1:44.00). Freshman Cody Rempfer finished first in the 200 fly with a time of 1:53.88.
"The women's team won seven of 13 events and beat BYU in the pool," says head coach Mike Litzinger. "Their diving depth was superior and that was what made the difference. The men stepped up and competed in a fashion we haven't for a while. I am extremely proud of how our teams competed, and we will be a team to be reckoned with at the MWC championships."
