SALT LAKE CITY - Utah junior catcher/designated hitter Chris Shelton was named the Mountain West Conference Player of the Week on Tuesday.
Shelton, from Salt Lake City (Salt Lake City CC), went 9-for-11 (.818) with seven RBI, seven runs scored, three doubles and two home runs in three games at Air Force last week. Shelton went 2-for-3 with a double and a home run in Utah's 6-1 series-opening win Friday, followed by a 4-for-4 performance in the Utes' 12-2 win in Friday's second game. In that game, he hit a two-run home run, his 12th of the season, and tallied four RBI while scoring four runs. On Saturday, Shelton went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI in the Utes' 10-7 loss to the Falcons. This is Shelton's second player-of-the-week honor this season. He also won the award on March 27.
