Men's Tennis Falls to No. 6 Ranked Stanford

STANFORD, CALIF. - The University of Utah men's tennis team was swept by the No. 6 ranked Stanford Cardinals, 7-0 on Wednesday. The Utes fall to 8-11 in overall play on the year and boast a 1-4 conference record.

The Cardinals feature four nationally ranked individuals and three nationally ranked doubles teams. Utah's David Mercier played at the No. 1 singles position, being defeated by No. 3 ranked Alex Kim, 6-2, 7-5. Kevin Zenger faced off against 19th-ranked K.J. Hippensteel at the second spot and won the first set, 5-7, before dropping the next two, 6-3, 6-2. Corrie Scheepers was paired up against 78th-ranked Ryan Haviland, also winning the first set, 1-6, and dropping the second and third, 6-2 and 6-3. Nicholas Yip took on 23rd-ranked David Martin, falling in straight sets. Daniel Carlsson and Kaisorn Chaichana lost at the bottom two positions for the Utes.

Utah fell in all three doubles matches to the Pac-10 Cardinals. Merier and Yip fell at the No. 1 position, 8-5. The No. 5 ranked tandem of Martin and Scott Lipsky defeated Carlsson and Zenger at the second spot, while Chaichana and Scheepers fell to 49th-ranked Haviland and Morris.

The Utes will be back at home to host Denver on Apr. 10 and Montana on Apr. 12, before hosting the Mountain West Conference Championships Apr. 26-29.
