SUNRIVER, OREGON - SUNRIVER, OREGON - The Mountain West Conference Men's Golf Championship completed the final round of competition on Wednesday. The University of Utah took to the course in fifth place heading into the final day, but when New Mexico shot the low round of the tournament on Wednesday, the Utes were bumped to sixth. BYU won the competition with a two-stroke advantage over San Diego State.
Topping the Utes was Ryan Ellis, whose 13-over-par performance in the three days of competition, landed him in a tie for 16th place. Ellis closed out the second and third round with two 73-stroke rounds, after shooting 83 in the first. Shawn Edwards, Brock Padilla and Luke Swilor finished in a eight-way tie for 22nd place with a 16-over-par score. Edwards' three round totals were: 79, 77 and 76. Padilla shot an 81 in the final round, after shooting 76 and 75 in the two opening rounds, while Swilor shot: 78, 80 and 74. Paul Winterowd rounded out the Ute finishes with a 19-over-par, tie for 33rd place.
NCAA qualifiers will be announced on May 8.
