THIS WEEK: The Ute men's and women's cross country teams are off to Boseman, Mont., on Saturday to compete in the Montana State Invitational. In addition to Montana State, the Utes will compete against Utah State and Montana. The men will run an 8K race at 9:00 a.m., while the women will compete in a 5K race at 9:40 a.m.
REVIEWING LAST WEEK: Utah opened the season at the Idaho State Invitational. The men placed third behind Weber State and Utah State. Teren Jameson finished first (19:34) followed by Colby Frazier in eighth place (20:21). Lion Gallegos placed 12th (20:46), B.J. Christensen was 15th (20:54) and Nephi Tyler was 20th (21:11). The women's team placed fourth behind Idaho State, Weber State and Utah State. Leading the women's team was Elise Greenwood, who placed fifth (11:53). Tara Hall, who placed 17th (12:24), and Julie Osguthorpe, who came in 19th (12:25), were the next two finishers for Utah.
QUOTING COACH APPELL: "Our next cross country meet, at Montana State University, will be the first real test of Ute athletes over the 8K distance for men and 5K for the women. The Idaho State meet two weeks ago was just a warm up and ice-breaker for these longer races. After implementing a new racing strategy for the first time at Idaho State, the runners will be a little more assertive and competitive this week."
AFTER THIS: The Utes have a week off before competing in the Stanford Invitational on Sept. 29 in Palo Alto, Calif.
