This Week The Ute indoor track & field teams kick off their 2002 season by competing in two separate meets on the 12th of January. On the women's side, the pole-vaulters will travel to Reno, Nev. for The Pole Vault Summit. This international pole vaulting competition will take place at the Reno Hilton. Members of the men's and women's team will travel to Ogden, Utah for the Weber State Invitational. In addition to Utah and Weber State, BYU, Ricks College and Utah State will compete in Ogden.
Ute Notes Utah begins a new era of coaching for track & field. Lisa Collet took over as head coach for the retired Mike Jones at the beginning of the 2001-02 season. Collet was an assistant for two years under Jones. This season also marks the first time that Utah track & field will compete in the pole vault. This should help the Utes earn more points during competition.
Quoting Head Lisa Collet "We are really excited about opening the 2002 season. This will begin a new era of coaching and direction for the Utah track & field program. It will mark the first year Utah has recruited and competed in pole vaulting. The Pole Vault Summit in Reno is an international pole vaulting clinic and competition our athletes will benefit from."
After This The Utes will travel to Pocatello, Idaho for the Snake River Open on Jan.19th.
