PROVO, Utah- The University of Utah swimming and diving teams both fell to Brigham Young on Friday. The women finished with a score of 147-96, while the men fell by a score of 124-77. The women end the season with a record of 5-6 overall and 4-4 in the Mountain West Conference. The men finish with a 1-5 overall record, 0-5 MWC.
Kristen Kaiser led the women with two first place finishes. She won the 1000 free (10:40.42) by four seconds over teammate Sara Afong (10:44.42). Kaiser took top honors in the 400 IM (4:31.95), almost five seconds ahead of the next competitor. Utah swept the 500 free, with freshman Loren Sweny (5:07.05) edged out Kaiser (5:08.64) and Afong (5:14.80) for first place. Tessa Greegor took top honors in the 100 breast (1:05.77)
In the men's 1000 free, Magnus Lofgren finished first with a time of 9:57.64, while Jonathan Hanna finished third (10:10.40). Stephen Linge won the 100 fly (51.62) ahead of Cody Rempfer who finished third (51.72). Freshman Evan Castro took top honors in the 100 breast (57.32) and Daniel Godfrey finished third (58.50).
The Utes will travel to Oklahoma City, Okla., to compete in the MWC Championships on Feb. 27-March 3.
