THIS WEEK: The Utes travel to Provo, Utah, to face in-state rival Brigham Young on Friday. The meet will start at 2 p.m. (MST). The Ute women are 5-5 overall and 4-3 in the Mountain West Conference. The men are 1-4 overall, 0-4 MWC.
AIR FORCE RECAP: The University of Utah women's swimming and diving team defeated Air Force Saturday 161.2-137, the men's team fell 164.5-129.5.
Kristen Kaiser led the women by winning three individual events. Kaiser won the 200 fly (2:11.99), the 400 IM (4:41.64) and the 1650 free (17:44.16). The Utes swept the 100 breast, with Tessa Greegor finishing first (1:05.25), Phoenix Fribourg finishing second (1:06.82), Bryn Evans finishing third (1:08.53) and Melissa Chamberlin taking fourth (1:08.85). In the 200 free, sophomore Neringa Statkeviciute finished first (1:51.94), Courtney McKinney finished second (1:54.63) and Renee Dyer finished third (1:56.83). Chamberlin took top honors in the 200 breast (2:25.13), while fellow Utes Greegor (2:28.05) and Evans (2:29.18) finished second and third respectively.
For the men, Cody Rempfer finished first in the 200 fly (1:52.58) and the 400 IM (4:12.22). He also took third in the 100 fly (51.60). In the 200 free, Brett Hoersting finished first (1:44.47) and Matthew Marceau finished second (1:44.51). Brandon Durrant took the top spot in the 100 free (47.89), edging out fellow teammate Jacob Burton (48.18).
QUOTING HEAD COACH MIKE LITZINGER: "The BYU meet marks an important part of the season, as it is the close of our dual meet season, and our final time to get off the blocks before the Mountain West Championships."
UTE NOTES: Cody Rempfer was named the MWC Men's Swimmer of the Week on Oct. 24. Rempfer set a Colorado State Early Bird Invitational record in the 200 fly (1:52.87). ... Loren Sweny set a Utah school record in the 200 back (2:05.27) against Oregon State. ... Neringa Statkeviciute is second on the Utah top performances list in the 100 free, posting a time of 51.26 against BYU. Statkeviciute has finished first in the 100 free in six of the seven meets she has competed in this season. She also ranks fourth on the Ute top performances list in 50 free (23.85), winning the event three out of the last four meets.
