ST. GEORGE, Utah-The Utes posted their second shutout at the Red Desert Classic, as they blanked Eastern Kentucky, 10-0, on Saturday afternoon. The win gives the Utes a 10-19 record on the year.
Lead off batter Molly McLean scored the Utes first run after walking, stealing second and third, and crossing the plate off a ground out to third by Lindsey Trevis. The Utes added two more runs in the third when Masie Ota singled to drive in Brittany Durance and Molly McLean advanced to third and scored on an error by the second baseman (3-0).
Utah added two more runs in the fourth to make it a 5-0 lead. The Utes broke open the ball game with a five-run sixth inning (10-0). Trevis led the Utah attack in the sixth with a three-run homer. Melissa Stahnke followed Trevis' home run with a shot of her own to push the lead to, 10-0.
Heather Bowlin (3-0) picked up her second win of the tournament. Bowlin threw a complete game shutout and allowed five hits while striking out three.
In game two, Utah dropped its first game of the Red Desert Classic to No. 12 Washington, 4-1. The loss drops Utah to 10-20 on the season.
The Huskies scored all four of their runs in the third off an RBI double and a three-run homer by All-American Jaime Clark. The Utes posted their only run in the fourth when Melissa Stahnke scored on an error by Husky shortstop.
