The University of Utah gymnastics team that placed fourth in the nation at the 2002 NCAA Championships, compiled a 3.7036 grade-point average in the 2001-02 academic year. Kim Allan, Shannon Bowles, Deidra Graham, Gritt Hofmann, Theresa Kulikowski, Annie Medcalf, Lindsay Tanner and Kylee Wagner were named scholastic All-Americans for receiving 3.5 or better GPAs.
Five Ute gymnasts graduated in May, two of whom will return for their senior seasons next year. Graduated Utes who have finished with their competitive careers are Bowles, Graham and Tanner. Kulikowski, a three-time NCAA Champion and 12-time All-American, finished her undergraduate requirements in May with a perfect 4.0 GPA. She will start graduate courses in the fall. Wagner is expected to receive an additional year of competition from the NCAA after missing all but the 2002 season opener with an ankle injury. She will work for a second undergraduate degree in 2003.
In the spring semester, the gymnasts recorded a 3.576 GPA, with four receiving 4.0 report cards. They were Bowles, Hofmann, Kulikowski and Medcalf. Nine of the 11 team members made the Athletics Director's Honor Roll.
