ALBEQUERQUE, N.M.- The Utah women's swimming and diving team rebounded from a tough loss with a win over New Mexico 130-104. With the win Utah improves its record to 8-7 (3-2 in conference).
Utah won 11 of 13 events and had three different triple-event winners; Neringa Statkeviciute won in the 200 free, 100 free and 800 free-relay. Marta Stepanczuck was a winner in the 1000 free, 500 free, and 800 free-relay, while Kristen Kaiser was a winner in the 400 IM, 200 fly and 800 free-relay. Amy Barefield added a victory in the 50 free with a time of 24.08, which is one of the fastest in the conference.
"I challenged the team after the Colorado State loss to step up and show some heart and we did," comments Head Coach Michael Litzinger. "We swam very tough and responded well to the challenge."
