COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Utah's Kelsie Kartchner, a junior setter/outside hitter, has been named Co-Player of the Week by the Mountain West Conference. She shares the honor with Colorado State junior middle blocker Katie Jo Shirley. Kartchner is a first-time award winner.
A 5-10 junior from Pleasant Grove, Utah, Kartchner showed her versatility by playing outside hitter and setter in Utah's 6-2 offensive scheme last week. She posted her second triple-double of the season with 11 kills, 25 assists and 12 digs in a 3-1 victory over BYU, marking the Utes' seventh straight win over the Cougars. Kartchner also posted four blocks, including two solos, and hit .381 (11-3-21). She averaged 2.75 kills, 6.25 assists, 3.0 digs and 1.0 blocks per game.
Shirley nearly posted her first career triple-double after totaling 19 kills, 12 digs and eight blocks, including two solos, in a four-game victory over Wyoming last week. Shirley averaged 4.75 kills, 3.0 digs and 2.0 blocks per game while hitting .548 (19-2-31) vs. the Cowgirls.
