SALT LAKE CITY -
Each week, a Ute gymnast will contribute an excerpt for the Utah Gymnastics Diary. This week's edition of the Utah Gymnastics Diary is provided by junior co-captain and All-American Annabeth Eberle.
Routines, Routines!! We successfully completed our first week of routine development. It went really well and everyone is putting together nice sets. We started tumbling on the competition floor, acclimating our bodies again to the harder surface. I think our fans will be excited about everyone's new floor routines. A big THANK YOU goes to Mary Wright (our new FX coach) who has helped us so much in choreographing some routines and polishing others.
We also started "team beam" this week, which is when everyone has to hit each element in their routine as a team. We have to keep going until everyone has hit the assigned number. It's really fun, but challenging at the same time and gets us ready for the feeling of competition.
On Friday, everyone dressed in costume for our Halloween contest. The costumes were awesome! We all had a blast dressing up and showing our creativity. I think Greg had the best costume though. He went as a gymnastics coach. I don't know...pretty scary! I am happy to report that all twelve of us were winners of the contest, so no one had to do circuit strength training. (That was nice of Greg!). If you want to see some pictures of us in our costumes go to our photo gallery.
Tom (our trainer) is still managing to do a great job of keeping us healthy for the most part, which leaves him sitting around at our practices (a good thing). Rachel has a strained abdominal muscle and Riffy had a nice fall on beam that left a raspberry on her leg. A few of us have been dealing with a cold that has been going around. Other than that, I am happy to say "that's it from the training table."
This is our second week of routine development and the entire team is working hard to be ready of our "Red Rocks Preview" (November 21, 7:00 p.m., Huntsman Center). We can't wait to show all of our new stuff and see our great fans again. Our practices are open too, so if you get a chance, come by. We train on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 1:30 to 5:30 p.m.
Be sure to read the entry next week. Gritt will be doing it, so bone up on your German.
GO UTES!
