THIS WEEK:
The Utah men's golf team will return to tournament play at the John Burns Intercollegiate on Feb. 19-21, in Honolulu, Hawaii. The line-up for the Utes will be the same as it was to finish the fall season consisting of Casey Fowles, Carl Jensen, Garrett Clegg, Luke Swilor and Steve Newren.
The John Burns Intercollegiate will be a three-day tournament hosted by the University of Hawaii. Tee off for the 54-hole event will begin on Wednesday at 7:30 a.m. for the first round and will have a 7:30 a.m. shotgun start on Thursday and Friday as well.
LOOKING BACK:
Utah won the Countrywide Home Loans Intercollegiate by 18 strokes on Oct. 21-22. The Utes finished with a team score of 867 (292-287-288); three-over-par. Casey Fowles led the Utes and finished in first overall with his 208 (70-70-68), eight-under-par performance. The win was the team's first since 1988, and Fowles individual victory was the first time a Ute has finished first since 1998.
UTE NOTES:
This Tournament will be the Utes first since Oct. of 2002. Utah completed one of the most sucessful fall season's in school history capped with a victory in Northridge, Calif. at the Countrywide Intercollegiate.
QUOTING HEAD COACH WAYNE FISHER:
"The John Burns is always a tournament we look forward to, it's the first tournament of the spring season and we aren't quite sure what to expect. It is a very strong field and we hope to pick up right where we left off in the fall."
