Upcoming Event: Track & Field versus NCAA First Round on May 28, 2026

THIS WEEK: The University of Utah indoor track and field teams will compete in the Mountain West Conference Championships in Colorado Springs, Colo. Competition will begin on Thursday, Feb. 27, and last through Saturday, March 1. Hosted by Air Force, the meet will feature athletes from all MWC schools. Competition begins at 11:00 a.m. on each day.
QUOTING HEAD COACH LISA ARCHER: "We've had a great season so far," states Archer. "In seven meets, our athletes have set 120 personal records, five school records and we've had three NCAA provisional qualifiers. We are expecting to improve our conference placing and our scoring this weekend at the championships."
LAST MEET: The Utah indoor track and field team finished competition for the Oval Qualifier on Friday, Feb. 21. Held at the Utah Olympic Oval, the meet featured athletes from Utah, Brigham Young, Weber State and Utah Valley State College. The Utes won three events overall, while 15 personal records were set by some of the distance runners in seven different events.
Leading the way for the women were Brooke LoBue, Vanessa Mortensen, and Katie Decker, who all notched first-place finishes in their respected events. LoBue won the pole vault with a height of 3.97 meters. Mortensen won the weight throw and tied her career best with a distance of 17.86 meters and Katie Decker won the high jump with a height of 1.71 meters. Nellie Hammons, Andrea Davidson, Nicki Hugie, Ashlee Warnick and Elise Greenwood all set personal records in their respective events.
On the men's side, Nephi Tyler led the team by placing third in the one mile with a time of (4:07.89). Tyler garnered an NCAA provisional qualifying time with the run. Taylor Price, Ivan Alvarado, Derek Sensenstein, Delfino Arevalo, Lion Gallegos, Jeff Davidson and Colby Frazier all set personal records in the their respective events.
UTES ON THE MOVE: Sophomore Nellie Hammons set a new school record in the 800 meters with a time of 4:03.20 at the Oval Qualifier. Her time was a new personal record and good enough for second place. The sophomore is quickly evolving into one of Utah's most consistent athletes in 2003.
Sophomore Jennifer Jackman set a school record in the 400 meters at the Oval Qualifier with a time of 59.79. Her time was good enough for second place in the event.
"It's been a thrill to watch Jackman and Hammons compete this year," says Archer. "Their hard work has paid off and we are excited to watch them compete this week."
NEXT ACTION: The Utes will kick off the 2003 outdoor season with the Baldy Castillo Invitational on Saturday, March 22. The meet will be held in Tempe, Ariz.
