THIS WEEK:
The Utah golf team travels to Riverside, Calif. on March 3-4, for the Highlander 'Braveheart' Classic. The lineup for the Utes will include Casey Fowles, Ashdon Woods, Garrett Clegg, Luke Swilor and Steve Newren.
THE FIELD:
The Highlander Classic hosted by UC Riverside will include top contenders Denver, New Mexico JV and New Mexico State, along with in state schools Weber State and Southern Utah. The 54-hole tournament will begin on March 3, with 36 holes and conclude on March 4 with the final 18 holes. Play will begin with a shotgun start at 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday at the PGA Golf Club.
LOOKING BACK AT THE JOHN BURNS:
Utah finished the John Burns Intercollegiate in 10th place on Feb. 21. Casey Fowles led the team, finishing the tournament in 12th place with a 213 (69-68-76), three-under-par. Garrett Clegg was 23rd finishing at one-under, 215 (69-73-73), Luke Swilor ended up in 40th with a 219 (75-72-72) three-over. Carl Jensen added a 222 (74-73-75), six-over. Steve Newren finished with a score of 223 (76-76-71), seven-over.
UTE NOTES:
The team is averaging an 8th place finish in tournaments this year, with an average round of 295. Utah had its best finish at the Countrywide Intercollegiate, finishing first. Freshman Casey Fowles has the team's best individual performance finishing first at the Countrywide Intercollegiate.
