Utah Gymnasts Draw Tough Rotation At NCAA Championships

The University of Utah gymnastics team hurdled the first obstacle in post-season play by qualifying for the NCAA Championships. Now, the Utes must finish in the top three from the evening session on opening day of the NCAA Gymnastics Championships in order to qualify for the Super Six. The NCAA Championships will be held from April 24-26 in Lincoln, Neb.
Utah, which placed fourth last year after winning the powerful afternoon session, is with three other Super Six qualifiers from a year ago. Two Super Six members, UCLA and Alabama, are in the coveted afternoon session.
Utah, hometown favorite Nebraska, Georgia, Stanford, Florida and Auburn will compete for three places in team finals starting at 7 p.m. CDT on April 24. The afternoon session features Alabama, UCLA, Michigan, Arizona State, Louisiana State and Iowa.
The Utes drew their usual rotation from the NCAA's blind draw and will start on floor and finish competition on beam before heading to a bye. Last year, Utah drew the identical rotation at regionals and both rounds of nationals.
By winning the NCAA North Central Region, Utah remains the only program in the country to qualify for every NCAA Championship. Head Coach Greg Marsden and his Utes are making their 22nd consecutive appearance in the NCAA's. For the second straight year, Utah is the only non-BCS team to qualify for the NCAA Championships.
