THIS WEEK:
The Utah golf team will travel to Provo, Utah to compete in the Cougar Classic on April 25-26. This will be the final tournament for the Utes before the Mountain West Conference Championships on May 1-3. Utah is coming off a fifth place finish at the Grand Canyon Invitational. This week's lineup for the Utes will include Casey Fowles, Ashdon Woods, Garrett Clegg, Luke Swilor and Steve Newren.
THE FIELD:
The Cougar Classic is hosted by Brigham Young University and will include several teams from around the conference such as Colorado State and Air Force, along with teams from around the west including Hawaii and Nevada. The 54-hole tournament will begin on Friday, April 25, with 36 holes and conclude on Saturday, April 26 with the final 18 holes. Play will begin with a shotgun start at 8:00 a.m.
LOOKING BACK AT THE GRAND CANYON INVITATIONAL:
Utah shot a team score of four-over-par, 868 (285-297-286), good enough for fifth place. Luke Swilor was the top Ute finishing fifth individually and shooting a three-under, 212 (68-75-70), five strokes back of the winner.
UTE NOTES:
Last year Utah finished 10th as a team at the Cougar Classic with a score of 598 (298-300). Luke Swilor had the top individual performance finishing 16th with a score of 144 (73-71). This year the Utes are averaging a sixth place finish as a team.
