Track and Field Finishes first day of BYU Invitational

PROVO, Utah - The University of Utah track and field team finished the first day of competition for the Brigham Young University Invitational on Friday, May 2. Hosted by Brigham Young University, the meet featured athletes from Utah, Utah State and Utah Valley State College. After the first day of competition, the women's team is in third place with a total of 61 points.

Leading the way for Utah were Brooke LoBue, Vanessa Mortensen, Kristy Slade and Becky Riddle. LoBue won the pole vault with an impressive height of 3.97 meters. Her performance is a not only a new personal record, but also a new school record for the senior. Mortensen won the hammer with a distance of 55.71 meters. Slade finished fourth in the long jump with a height of 5.55 meters and Riddle finished fourth in the discus with a distance of 40.52 meters.

Competition for the meet will wrap up on Saturday, May 3. 3.
