THIS WEEK:
The University of Utah golf team will open up the fall season in Colorado Springs, Colo., for the Falcon Invitational on Sept. 19-21. The lineup for the Utes this week will be Garrett Clegg, Ashdon Woods, Steve Newren, Carl Jensen and Luke Swilor.
THE FIELD:
The 54-hole tournament begins Friday, Sept. 19, and will consist of 18 teams including in-state teams Southern Utah and Weber State, along with conference foes New Mexico JV and host school Air Force.
LOOKING BACK AT LAST SEASON:
Utah finished fourth at the 2003 Mountain West Conference Championships, with a team score, four-over-par, 868 (290-289-289).
Last season, Utah won two tournaments, the Countrywide Intercollegiate on Oct. 21-22 and the USD Invitational on March 17-18. The Utes also had two individual winners as Casey Fowles finished first at the Countrywide Intercollegiate and Garrett Clegg won the Highlander Classic.
UTE NOTES:
The Falcon Invitational will be the first tournament of the season for the Utah golf team. Last year at the Falcon Invitational, Utah finished in fifth place with a total score of 26-over-par (890). Utah had the lead after the first day, fell to third after the second day and finished with a final round of 311 to put them in fifth. Leading the way for Utah was Garrett Clegg who finished in seventh place with a three-over-par (219).
