SALT LAKE CITY - Ute senior golfer Garrett Clegg has qualified for the NCAA West Regionals, May 20-22 at the Crosswater Course in Sunriver, Ore.
Clegg is one of six individuals who will join the 27 teams in the field for the 54-hole event. The Bountiful, Utah, native has made the all-Mountain West Conference team both years after returning to his home state from the University of Minnesota.
Clegg posted a seven-over-par 223 to earn all-league honors at the 2004 Mountain West Conference Championships, which were also held at the Crosswater Course. Ten teams and two individuals from each of the three regional tournaments will advance to the NCAA Championships, June 1-4 in Hot Springs, Va.
"We expect good things from Garrett in the regional tournament," said Ute head coach Wayne Fisher. "The Mountain West Championships have been held at this course the last four years, and this will be the third time Garrett has played there. He should know the course well and have an excellent chance to advance to the NCAA finals."
