SALT LAKE CITY -
Each week, a Ute gymnast will contribute an excerpt for the Utah Gymnastics Diary. This week's edition of the Utah Gymnastics Journal is provided by senior All-American Annabeth Eberle.
WE'RE B-A-C-K!! It is so nice to be back and getting into the "swing of things". I can't believe it has already been two weeks. We've been so busy, it's just flown by. We got started on Monday, August 23 with our beginning-of-the-year NCAA compliance meetings. The whole team was there bright and early, ready to go. We had meetings, physicals, got our books, more meetings a short potty break and then more meetings. We love all of those NCAA rules don't we girls!
Classes started on Wednesday and that evening we went to the Scholarship Circle barbeque at our new president's home. It was great to be there and meet many of our donors. I can't believe that all of our gymnastics scholarships have been donated now for the past six years. We are so lucky to have such great fans. Thursday was the first day of our required out-of-season conditioning. The returnees knew what was coming, but I think our freshmen were pretty sore on Friday.
Saturday, we started with max strength testing. Then it was off to the Ute Fan Fest, which we all look forward to every year. Fans of all ages came to meet us, take pictures and get autographs. I think we had more fun wearing the Utah tattoos than anyone else, although we were happy to put them on whoever wanted one. Thank you to everyone who was there. Did I mention that we have the very best fans... and that's a FACT. Here's a link to some pictures from the Fan Fest: Photos
We had the rest of the weekend to relax before getting back to work on Monday. We couldn't wait for Thursday though. FOOTBALL!!! Steph (from Houston) wore her Texas A&M t-shirt to the gym. Now what were you saying about Texas football Steph? Way to go UTES!! The whole team went to the game and had a great time cheering our boys to victory. No one had a voice left on Friday. NO PROBLEM!
We were all looking forward to the Labor Day weekend and our team hike on Monday. But first we had the best ever aerobics class. On Saturday, Jenny taught us a Hip Hop class. My sisters can get down now! We had a blast. We'll get some pictures up on our photo page in the next few days. Be sure to get back there to check us out!
What an awesome team hike we did on Monday. Red Pine Lake was beautiful. We even saw a moose. I think Ashley and Katie are going to become real mountain women ... NOT. Nat and Queenie were the first ones to the top. They ARE real mountain women. I hope they don't stop shaving though. We'll have Aki get pictures of our hike up too. You won't want to miss those.
We are all excited for another great year and can't wait for our season to start! We hope you are too. You are welcome to come watch us practice in the Dumke Gymnastics Center any time. Right now, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, from 1:30 to 4:00, is just optional training, but starting on September 20, we will be there from 1:30 to 5:30.
Be sure to catch Gritt's entry next week. She has some big news!
GO UTES!!
