PROVO, Utah- The University of Utah cross country women wrapped up their season today at the NCAA Regionals. The team finished as expected, 15th of 18.
"It's been a very successful year," commented Head Coach Kyle Kepler. "It's hard to put two emotional races back-to-back like conference and regionals, and I really thought we ran a tremendous race today."
Ashlee Warnick was the the number-one finisher for Utah, finishing 45th with a time of 23:01. Following behind her was Nicki Hugie, clocking in at 23:39 with a 73rd -place finish. Rounding out the rest of the pack are Janett Ern (86th, 24:07), Kellie Anderson (90th, 24:25), and Kristin Taylor (102nd, 24:58). Chelsea DiGrazia, who has been sick the past few days, attempted to run but was unable to finish due to her illness.
"Our kids did a great job, especially considering the adversity they faced in the middle of the race after Chelsea went down," praised coach Kepler. "Everybody stepped up. I'm really proud of Aslee Warnick stepping up as our number one runner. Janett Ern, our freshman from Germany, really had a nice race as well. I think those are the two that really pulled through for us, as with the others, but those two especially."
Johanna Nilsson of Northern Arizona University won the race with a time of 20:39. The University of Colorado won the meet on 53 points.
