The Utah gymnastics team goes into tonight's Red Rocks Preview intra-squad exhibition with a newly-minted No. 2 preseason national ranking. The Utes received 586 total points and five first place votes in the coaches' poll. Defending NCAA champion Georgia was picked No. 1, garnering 603 total points and 15 first place votes.
Ten of Utah's opponents this season are against teams ranked in the preseason top 25, including Georgia, which visits the Huntsman Center on Mar. 6. The Utes will open the 2006 season at No. 3 UCLA on Jan. 7. Their first home meet is on Jan. 20 against No. 8 Nebraska.
Utah's other ranked opponents are No. 5 Michigan, No. 6 Florida, No. 13 Oregon State, No. 14 Arizona State, No. 18 Washington, No. 19 Brigham Young and No. 24 Minnesota.
