SALT LAKE CITY -
Utah senior gymnast Annabeth Eberle, who led the Utes to a third-place finish at the NCAA Championships on April 22 in Auburn, Ala., has been named one of four gymnastics nominees for the Honda Broderick Award.
Eberle is an eight-time All-American who won four All-America citations at the 2005 NCAA Championships. She was a first-team All-American in the all-around twice in her career, including her senior year, and competed in vault finals three years, placing second in 2004 and sixth in both 2002 and 2005. She also made the finals in the floor exercise at the 2005 NCAA Championships, tying for eighth.
Eberle joins Kristen Maloney of UCLA, Elise Ray of Michigan and Richelle Simpson of Nebraska as the Honda gymnastics finalists. Their names have been placed on a national ballot that will be voted on by the senior woman administrators of every NCAA school.
American Honda has donated $1,000 to the Utah women's athletic fund in Eberle's name. The winner's program will receive an additional $5,000 from Honda. The gymnastics winner will then be placed on the Honda Cup ballot. The Honda Cup is awarded annually to the nation's outstanding collegiate woman athlete of the year. Utah's Missy Marlowe in 1992 is the only gymnast ever to win the Honda Broderick Cup.
