La Jolla, Calif. - The University of Utah men's and women's swimming and diving teams continued to impress on Saturday beating UC San Diego by the same score of 170-90 on both the men's and women's side. "It was a great day of racing for us," comments Head Coach Michael Litzinger. "We are excited about our performance and look to keep on track heading into the meet with UNLV next week."
The Ute women were bolstered by the strong performances of Michelle Blair and Amber Walter. Blair won the 200 fly with a time of 2:06.76, beating out UC San Diego's Karla Holman by .1 seconds. Walter won all four events she competed in on the day, the 200 medley relay (1:48.14), 100 breast (1:05.41), 50 free (23.62) and 400 free relay (3:32.71). Kelsey Patterson swept both the one-meter and three-meter diving for Utah.
For the men's team, Andrew Cole won the 100 back with a time of 52.06 and also the 200 back in 1:53.02 and would later win his third event with a time of 1:58.61 in the 200 IM. David Maasberg won four events for Utah, with victories in the 200 medley relay (1:35.83), 50 free (21.19), 100 free (46.90) and 400 free relay (3:11.55). Andrew Jones won in both the one-meter and three-meter diving as well for the Ute men.
Utah moves to 2-0 on both the men's and women's slates and will open the Mountain West Conference season on Saturday, November 4 at UNLV.
