ST. GEORGE, Utah - Sophomore Dustin Pimm shot a three-under 69 in the final round of the Pat Hick's Thunderbird Invite to finish with an overall score of 141 (-3). Pimm finished the tournament tied for eighth place. As a team, Utah shot a four-over 580 in the 36-hole tournament to tie for fifth place with San Francisco. Southern Utah claimed the overall team title with a 13-under 563.
Freshman Mike Branca shot a one-over 73 in the final round to finish with an even-par 144. Branca tied for 16th overall. Fellow Freshman Chance Cota struggled in the second round, adding five strokes to finish with a four-over 76 and a three-over 147 overall. Cota's 147 earned him a tie for 28th place.
Sophomore Chris Gresh scored a three-over 75 in the final round to follow his one-over 73 in the first round. Gresh finished tied for 36th with a four-over 148. Senior Steve Newren rounded out the Utes competing on the team with a four-over 76 in the final round, improving on is 10-over 82 in the first round. Newren tied for 66th overall with a 14-over 158.
Competing as individuals: Nick Carter shot a five-over 77 in the final round to finish with an overall score of 146 (+2). Carter finished tied for 24th overall. Senior Nick Micek scored a three-over 75 in the final round, finishing with a nine-over 153 to earn a tie for 52nd place. Chace Bickmore finished the day with an eight-over 80 to score a 17-over 161 and finish tied for 77th.
Up next, the Utes travel to Honolulu, Hawaii to compete in the John A. Burns Intercollegiate Feb. 22-24 at the Leilehua Golf Club.
