Utah Looks for Seventh Straight Win Wednesday
The No. 19/24-ranked University of Utah women's basketball team is at home Wednesday for its lone game this week. The Utes host the UNLV Lady Rebels in a 7 p.m. tipoff at the Jon M. Huntsman Center.
Utah will be looking for its seventh straight victory when UNLV hits town. The Utes haven't lost since dropping a 69-56 decision at TCU on Jan. 28. Utah took a 79-53 win over Air Force in its last outing.
UNLV has won its last two, defeating San Diego State 64-48 and Colorado State 74-57. In the win over CSU on Saturday, UNLV's Sherry McCracklin came off the bench to score 15 points and lead four Lady Rebels in double figures. Kisha Lee added 14, also off the bench, while Sheena Moore and Sequoia Holmes scored 13 and 11, respectively. UNLV never trailed in the contest.
Moore leads the Lady Rebels in scoring on the season, averaging 13.0 points per game. McCracklin leads the team with an average of 6.5 boards.
Utah defeated UNLV 59-51 in the first meeting, back on Jan. 21 in Las Vegas.
Utah Fast Breaks
? Utah leads the all-time series with UNLV by a count of 19-11.
? Utah has won the last four meetings with the Lady Rebels and eight of the last nine.
? Utah holds a 9-3 advantage in games played against UNLV in Salt Lake City.
? Utah never trailed in the first meeting with the Lady Rebels this season.
? Utah is the 12th-ranked NCAA Division I team in scoring defense (54.1 ppg).
? After topping the 70-point mark in its last five outings, Utah is now the top scoring team in the Mountain West. The Utes average 68.8 points per game.
League Leaders
Utah is currently the top scoring team in the Mountain West Conference. The Utes have topped the 70-point mark in each of their last five outings and in eight of their last 11.
Utah's scoring average of 68.8 points per game is 0.1 points per game better than second-place TCU. Utah has never led the Mountain West Conference or the Western Athletic Conference in scoring.
The Utes are also currently tops in scoring margin. Utah's average margin per game is currently at +14.7. BYU is the only other league team with a positive margin of 10 points or more. The Cougars are second with an average scoring margin of +11.9.
Thorburn Approaching Utah Record
Senior point guard Shona Thorburn needs just two assists to tie Alli Bills' record for career assists at the University of Utah. She currently has 610 career helpers, while Bills tallied 612 from 1994-98.
Thorburn is also just 41 assists shy of tying the Mountain West Conference record for assists. Mandi Moore currently holds that record with 651 set from 2001 through 2005.
Thorburn's potential to break the Utah and Mountain West Conference records are even more impressive, when considering that she played the shooting guard position as a freshman and sophomore.
Larsen Leads Nation
Utah senior Julie Larsen is once again the top three-point shooter in the nation. After holding the top spot in the country a few weeks ago, Larsen was in a bit of a slump, going 3-of-14 in four games prior to the Feb. 11 matchup with San Diego State.
She has broken out of that slump, going 10-for-15 in her last three games. She is now shooting .500 from three-point range.
