POCATELLO, Idaho- The University of Utah track and field team finished competition of the Mountain States Games Saturday evening. The meet was a huge success, with several girls achieving personal bests and top-finishes.
"We really had some outstanding things happen again this week," praises head coach Kyle Kepler. "We continue to carry over the momentum that we've built from the beginning of the year, and it's been awesome to watch these girls' success."
AJ Roby was yet again a big performer for the Utes, boasting a new personal best and first-place finish in the weight throw (59-03.75). She beat her last mark by approximately four feet. Roby also competed in the shot put (6th, 44-.110).
Another big competitor for the Utes was Jennifer Cutrer, finishing 7th in the 60m hurdles (9.24) and also bringing home a personal best in the event preliminaries (9.00). Nicki Hugie was also a top-performer, finishing 4th in the 3000m (10:39.80). Other big wins for the team include Amanda Feigt in the long jump (3rd, 19-00.75) and 2nd in the pentathlon (3687 points), and Haley McAllister finished 4th in the long jump (18-06.00). McAllister also obtained a personal best in the 200m (tie for 9th, 25.99). Nikki Mancinelli finished 6th in the high jump, clearing 5-4.
"I'm really proud of these girls. Each of our event groups keep stepping up every week trying to improve," Kepler continued. "If they aren't getting a personal best, their marks are close."
The team will split up again this weekend, with some girls competing in the Iowa State Classic, and others competing in Pocatello Idaho for the Idaho State Multiple Duals. Both meets will be held on February 11th and 12th.
