Postell Leads Quartet Of Utes Into NCAA Event Finals.

CORVALLIS, Ore. -
Ashley Postell leads a quartet of Utes into tonight's individual event finals at the NCAA Championships, beginning at 7 p.m. PDT. Postell, who placed second in the all-around on Thursday, qualified for finals on all four events. Nicolle Ford qualified on vault and bars. She will decide later in the day whether she will actually participate in the vault finals since two different vaults are required and she is only comfortable with one. Gritt Hofmann also qualified for vault finals, while Kristina Baskett will represent the Utes on bars.

There are two flights for every event tonight. Postell drew the No. 2 spot in flight one on the vault, while Hofmann and Ford are in the second flight. Hofmann is the third-to-last competitor on vault and Ford, should she choose to compete on the event, will be the final performer.
Baskett and Ford drew flight one on bars--Baskett going No. 3 and Ford in the fifth and final spot--while Postell is positioned in the middle of the second flight. On beam, Postell will lead off the second flight, and on floor, she'll be the third performer overall.
By qualifying for team finals, all four Utes are automatically granted first-team All-America status. Postell now has a total of 10 All-America awards in her first two seasons--the most possible--and nine of those are first-team honors.
Along with Ford's two first-team honors this year was a second-team citation in the all-around (she placed fifth in the afternoon session on April 20). Ford now owns seven All-America awards total, including four first-team honors, since 2004.
Hofmann, a first-team All-American on the floor exercise a year ago, finishes her career as a two-time All-American.
Freshman Baskett, whose 9.90 bar score on Thursday was the best of both sessions, completes a sensational freshman season as a two-time All-American. She won second-team honors on vault (tying for seventh in the opening round) to bring her All-America tally to two.
