PROVO, Utah-The University of Utah track and field team began competition today for the Mountain West Conference Championships. Today's event was the beginning half of the heptathlon. Amanda Feigt is currently in 6th place with 3,025 points. The leader is Kristin Olafsdottir from San Diego State University with 3,190 points.
"The competition is really close, and Amanda is still very much in the meet for a high place finish." commented head coach Kyle Kepler. "She's off to a great start and as day 2 comes up tomorrow, there are bigger and better things ahead for her to accomplish."
Today's heptathlon events included the 100m hurdles, high jump, shot put, and 200m dash. Feigt obtained a season best and lifetime personal best time in the 100m hurdles (14.33), and had a great performance in the high jump with a mark of 5-02.25 feet.
"Amanda just needs to maintain and remember that this event is all about consistency over the 7 events," continued Kepler. "I feel really good about where she's at right now, and am excited to return tomorrow. Hopefully she will finish off with another personal best and NCAA qualifying mark."
The heptathlon wraps up tomorrow, May 11th with the long jump, javelin throw, and 800m run. The meet continues Friday and Saturday, May 12-13 with the rest of the events.
