SALT LAKE CITY - The University of Utah saw 63 of its student-athletes named to the spring 2006 Academic All-Mountain West Conference team as announced by the league this afternoon.
Leading the way for the Utes was women's swimming and diving with 14 selections. Men's swimming and diving and women's track and field each had 10 named to the team while baseball (eight selections); softball and women's tennis (six each); and men's basketball, women's basketball and men's tennis (three each) round out the rest of Utah's selections.
Utah had four student-athletes record better than a 3.90. Tanner Folster (men's swimming and diving) led the way with a 3.97. Staci Hemingway (softball, 3.96), Nicole Hugie (track and field, 3.91) and Marissa Martin (women's swimming and diving, 3.90) account for the rest of Utah's top performers.
A total of 731 student-athletes league-wide were named to the team. To be eligible for selection, student-athletes must have completed at least one academic term at the member institution, while maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better, and be a starter or significant contributor on their athletic team.
