This Week:
The University of Utah Cross Country team will go to the 19th annual Chile Pepper Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark., on Saturday Oct. 13. Race time for the women's race will be 10:30 a.m. CDT. It features 41 teams, including three top-25 ranked teams in Arkansas, Virginia Tech, and Texas Tech.
Kepler's Quotes:
"We will have our hands full this week with good competition. At this point, we're not worried about finishing times, only how we finish in the standings.
"Our goal for this week's race is to finish in the top 15. We will continue to move forward and try to recover from a few illnesses on the team. The athletes are continuing to train hard, and we will back down a little bit next week to finish fine-tuning for the final stretch of the season."
Notes:
This is the second 6K race of the year for the Utes ... this is also the final race before the Mountain West Conference Championships in San Diego. It is also a 6k race ... this is the third straight year the Utah cross country team has raced in the Chile Pepper Cross Country Festival ... in each of the previous two years, every runner has recorded personal bests.
Next Week:
The Utes will have a week off before heading to San Diego for the 6k Mountain West Conference Championships. San Diego State will be the host school. Two weeks after the conference championship, Utah will race in the NCAA Mountain Regional Championships in Ogden, Utah. Weber State will host that meet.
