LAST WEEK:
The University of Utah will competed Oct. 22-23 in the Sycuan Invitational in El Cajon, Calif. The tournament, hosted by San Diego State, was affected by the nearby wildfires in San Diego. High temperatures, 40-mph winds and thick haze were tough conditions to overcome and the field struggled. Wichita State won the tournament at 20-over-par, and unusually high score for a tournament team medalist. WSU's Ryan Spears was the individual medalist at one-under-par, the only tournament golfer to record a sub-par score.

"It's been an interesting week with the wildfires and 40 mph winds," said Coach Randall McCracken. "We're looking forward to getting home and getting ready for the spring season."

FALL WRAP UP:
The Utah golf team completed its fall season Oct. 22-23 at the Sycuan Invitational in El Cajon, Calif. The fall campaign included five tournaments that were played in five different states. The Utes had three top-5 finishes, including a second-place finish in the Purple and Red Invitational. Nic Larson and Dustin Pimm each had top-five finishes, while Nick Carter and Chris Gresh each had a top-10 finish.

The team looks ahead to its spring schedule, which will feature seven tournaments from February to April. The Utes conclude their season Apr. 24-26 at the Mountain West Championships. Playing well in the conference tournament is vital, as the winning team receives an automatic berth in the NCAA West Regional, May 13-17. The Utah seniors will have a final chance to qualify for what would be the biggest event of their careers.

UTE NOTES:
Due to the nearby San Diego wildfires the Utes were forced to evacuate the hotel where they were staying ... Utah kept its string of top 10 finishes alived with their ninth-place finish ... Dustin Pimm has the low round for the Utes this season ... The senior recorded a 66 at the Wolf Pack Classic ... The Utes made their first appearance at the Tucker Invitational Sept. 14-15 ... The Sycuan Invitational was the Utes' final fall tournament ... The spring season starts Feb. 11-12 at the Pat Hicks Invitational.
