SALT LAKE CITY -
The 2006 and 2007 NCAA runner-up Ute gymnastics team received signed commitments today from a two-year U.S. National Team member and a Junior Olympic national all-around champion. Cortni Beers, a Senior International Elite, from Tulsa, Okla., competed for the U.S. National Team from 2004-2005. Stephanie McAllister of Indianapolis, Ind., is a two-time Junior Olympic national champion. The two plan to enroll at Utah next fall.
Highlights of Beers' U.S. National Team career included a 10th-place all-around finish at the 2005 USAG Nationals, where she also took seventh on the balance beam. She placed 12th in the all-around at the 2004 USAG nationals and 16th in 2006. Beers won a bronze medal in the all-around in both the 2005 and 2007 Friendship Cups, and she placed first on vault at the 2007 Friendship Cup. Other top 2007 results included placing fourth in the all-around at both the Crystal Cup Invitational and the Dynamo Classic, and seventh in the all-around and on the floor exercise at the U.S. Classic.
She trains at Krafft Academy of Gymnastics for coaches Kristi Krafft and Jean Luc Carrion. The daughter of Reese and Lora Beers attends Union High School in Tulsa.
"Cortni has a variety of high level skills, which she competes without compromising the artistic qualities of gymnastics, at a time in our sport when that's not always the case," says Utah head coach Greg Marsden. "Her movement pattern is fluid and she has her own unique style. Cortni is the type of gymnast we love here at Utah and we expect her to help us immediately."

McAllister, the 2005 Junior Olympic National all-around champion, also won the 2007 J.O. national uneven bar title. She placed fourth in the all-around at both the 2006 and 2007 J.O. National Championships. McAllister, who is a three-year Level Junior National Team member and a four-time J.O. National qualifier, has a move named after her on bars (the "McAllister").
She trains at Wright's American Gymnastics in Greenwood, Ind., for coaches Casey Wright, Michelle Hart and Steve Ellsbery. The daughter of David and Jennifer McAllister attends Perry Meridian High School in Indianapolis, where she is in the top 10-percent of her class and a National Honor Society member. She is an officer in the PMHS Blue Crew and Link Crew and a deacon at the Oliver Branch Christian Church.
"Stephanie owns her gymnastics - she knows where she is, always lands on her feet and is very consistent," says Marsden. "Her personality, both on and off the competitive floor, is infectious. She's someone who will be fun to work with and fun to watch."
Utah has won a record 10 national championships and is the only program in the nation to qualify for all 26 NCAA Championships. One of the highest-drawing women's sports of all time, the Utah gymnastics team has averaged over 10,700 spectators per home meet since 1992.
