OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - The University of Utah swimming and diving teams completed day-three of the 2007 Mountain West Conference Championships on Friday. Utah's women continued to set records in the Championships as Alison McInturff broke a school record and had an NCAA qualifying time in the 200 free. McInturff won the event for the second time in three years, with a time of 1:47.78. The Ute women are in second place with 439 points, while the Utah men are in fifth with 297.5 points.
For the women, Amber Walter won her second consecutive MWC title in the 100 breast with a time of 1:02.54. Walter's time is an NCAAB provisional qualifier. In the 400 IM, Adrienne Coburn placed second with her time of 4:26.45. On the diving end, Kelsey Patterson won her second event of the MWC Championships with a victory in the platform diving. Patterson scored a 273.90 in the event, winning by 45.95 points over the competition. Both Walter and McInturff will be heading to the NCAA Championships in March.
The men struggled to keep pace in day-three and fell to fifth-place overall. Ute, Michel DeCarolis placed second in the 100 breast with a time of 55.25. Seamus Alger placed sixth in the 400 IM (4:01.01), Marco Ferraro finished seventh in the 200 free (1:39.69) and Andrew Cole also had a seventh-place finish in the 100 back.
"It was a record setting day for the women," comments Head Coach Michael Litzinger. "I'm very proud of our effort today; there were a lot of really good performances today. The guys had a solid day as well and are just ahead of TCU and on Wyoming's heels. We look to finish the meet on a high note on Saturday."
Utah will complete the MWC Championships with day-four on Saturday. Live results can be found on the MWC official site.
