HONOLULU - After firing a disappointing 300 in Wednesday's opening round, the University of Utah made steady improvement in each successive round, finishing 17th overall at the Burns Intercollegiate at 16-over-par. Archrival Brigham Young overtook UNLV (who led after two rounds) to capture the team title.
Utah was paced by the consistent play of sophomore Chance Cota throughout the tournament. The San Diego native shot even-par on Friday to lead the team, and finish 38th overall. Junior Dustin Pimm fired a one-over-par 73 to finish the tournament at two-over-par, tied for 44th place. Frank Wrenn of Southern Methodist was the individual medalist at 13-under-par.
The Utes will next compete Mar. 5-6 at the Braveheart Classic in Beaumont, Calif.
